Ryan has worked with GDI for more than eleven years, studying under GDI founder and Columbus Blue Jackets goaltending consultant Ian Clark. Ryan is the current goaltending coach for the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs, and former goaltending coach for the Regina Pats. From a playing perspective, Ryan played 6 years of Junior hockey, spending time in both the BCHL and WHL. Ryan then went on to play professionally in the ECHL, UHL and AHL.
Dan Ferguson
Assistant Regional Manager

Dan is a goaltender coach and consultant throughout the GDI Prairie regions, where he holds the company position as Assistant Regional Manager. He strives to help guide countless goaltenders to achieve their own personal goals and objectives by instilling passion into their game on and off the ice. Highlighting past success includes being the goaltending coach for the 2011 Telus Cup National Champions, the Winnipeg Thrashers, and the 2010 AAA City Midget Champions, the Winnipeg Hawks. Previously during his coaching career, Dan had operated on and off-ice instruction out of the University of Manitoba, and one-on-one instruction to goaltenders within Southern-Manitoba. Dan has had a positive influence on many goaltenders who have proceeded to play Junior through to College or Pro, with a handful who have reached personal achievements through team success.
Joe Caligiuri
Head On-Ice Instructor
Joe has been a part of GDI for the past six years. His past playing experience includes competing at the CIS level with the University of Manitoba and in the WHL for three years with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Prince George Cougars. His junior career was capped off with the Dauphin Kings where he helped backstop the team to reach 50 wins during the season and advance to the finals at the CJHL National Championship – RBC Cup.
Brett Martyniuk
Head On-Ice Instructor
Brett is a former WHL goaltender with the Tri-City Americans. His past playing experience also includes playing in the MJHL, and competing for a National Championship as a finalist with the Winnipeg Thrashers, where he helped lead the team to a 58-2 record. Brett provides 1v1 instruction at GDI Prairies, along with being apart of GDI Regional Development Camps and Clinics throughout the season. He provides a strong technical and psychological perspective on the position, helping each goaltender he instructs reach new heights.
Mark Friesen
Head On-Ice Instructor
Mark has been a part of GDI for the past five years. His past playing experience includes competing at the CIS level with the University of Manitoba and in the WHL for four years with the Chilliwack Bruins and Swift Current Broncos. Mark has been conducting 1v1 lessons with GDI and is also a head instructor at Regional and Prospect Camps. He brings a calming demeanor when instructing lessons and provides detailed and constructive feedback to each goaltender he works with.
Brandon Bizovey
Head On-Ice Instructor
Brandon has been apart of GDI for numerous years, from attending many camps when young; to instructing at Regional Development Camps and 1 on 1 lessons at the Training Center during the off-season. Brandon demonstrates his passion for goaltending through instilling an expectation of hard work and dedication to the position to each student he works with. He always works his students hard and expects perfection, all while keeping each session fun and enjoyable.
Derek Kleinsteuber
Head On-Ice Instructor
Derek has been with GDI Prairies instructing summer camps and one-on-one lessons for over the course of three years. As a vocal and enthusiastic instructor, the knowledge he provides each goaltender is brought with an intense passion. Derek’s past history includes being drafted by the Medicine Hat Tigers 90th Overall and playing his final years of junior hockey in Saskatchewan.
